We’re driving the future from Chalki
After the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, on July 2nd, 2021, by the Greek government, the Syngelidis Group, Citroën’s Greek importer, and the French companies Vinci Energies, Akuo Energy Greece, ALD Automotive, as well as PPC Group and Vodafone Greece, within a short time, electric mobility and a holistic, green and sustainable action plan became a reality in the island of Chalki.
The Syngelidis Group and Citroën, in collaboration with the Greek government, undertook the transformation to zero emissions mobility, which will be smart, sustainable and accessible to all, aiming to replace the old and polluting vehicles on the island.
The GR-eco Island national initiative prioritizes the small, remote and non-interconnected islands and aims to transform them into a model of sustainable development not just at a national but at a European and a global level.
Chalki, also known as the island of peace, friendship, and youth around the globe, was not accidental as a choice. Chalki was selected because of the environmental activities that have been implemented on the island in recent years. Moreover, in Chalki, the suitable conditions prevail for: a) shifting to green energy production from RES, to cover the electricity needs of the island and b) the full transition of the island to sustainable mobility, significantly reducing the environmental footprint. The goal is for Chalki to be a centre of innovation and a source of inspiration, so that Greece can play a leading role in Europe’s vision, which is to become the world’s first climate-neutral continent by 2050.
With the adoption of electric mobility, transportation becomes smart and user-friendly, with a neutral climate footprint. Thanks to Citroën's innovative approach and extended pure electric model range, the residents and visitors of the island will enjoy better air quality, cleaner environment, zero noise pollution and lower running costs in their daily lives.
With the donation of the Syngelidis Group and Citroën, the current transportation system of the Municipality is modernized, while local Police and Coast Guard stations now have at their disposal pure electric, smart and extremely flexible means of transportation, to cover their needs.
The island residents will be the real ambassadors in the effort towards the transition to sustainable mobility. For this purpose, Syngelidis Group and Citroën has created special privileged programs with maximum flexibility, exclusively for residents, legal entities of the island, to acquire zero-emission electric vehicles.
Within the framework of the project “Chalki, Green & Smart Island”, the residents of the island will have the benefit of subsidies and privileged prices to aquire the electric vehicle from a wide choice of Citroën electric range.
